Been invited to a Christening or Baptism? They’re right up there as one of the trickiest occasions to buy a gift for – after all, the little one’s family and friends could be throwing a religious event or a non-religious one.
If possible, find out what kind of celebration the hosts are planning; you’ll likely find a clue or two on the invitation. If it’s a religious affair, you may want to tailor your gift accordingly. Likewise, if it’s a simple ‘naming ceremony’, you may feel you aren’t as restricted when it comes to selecting a present.
To help you get organised, here are some ‘safe’ enough ideas for both kinds of day, with love from the Love Lumi team.
Create a Scrapbook of Images
If you’re close enough to the little bundle of joy, perhaps you have plenty of photographs you’ve taken – from birth right through to their upcoming Christening Day. If so, consider getting them printed out and adding them to a homemade scrapbook.
Alternatively, we have some gorgeous books to choose from – like this one, which features a cross and doubles up as a guest book for Christening attendees.
This high-quality hardback book can be personalised for any occasion – from naming days to Christenings and Baptisms – and it’s available in a pink or blue theme.
Choose a Cute Keepsake for Their Bedroom
Not sure if the Christening is a religious celebration? You won’t go far wrong with a cute little keepsake for the little bundle of joy’s bedroom or nursery.
This adorable Christening Star can take pride of place on a shelf, while this Vintage Baby Hanging Heart makes a lovely gift they can also easily place in a memory box.
If you’re feeling crafty, you could make them something fun for their bedroom, too. From macrame wall hangings to cross stitch (or even a hand-drawn picture) you’ll find plenty of inspiration on sites like Pinterest. Here's a link to a fun (but hopefully not too tricky!) macrame rainbow tutorial to have a go.
Introduce the Fun of Saving with this Money Box
For older children, this Christening Money Box is a great choice; those who are feeling extra generous could deposit a few pounds (or a note or two) into it to kickstart their savings pot. Again, this will be a welcome gift for a religious or non-religious occasion, as will a lot of the personalised items you’ll find on our site.
Available in a pink or blue hot air balloon theme, you can personalise this with the little one’s name too. As well as making a lovely addition to their bedroom or nursery, it’s a stunning keepsake they will look back on fondly in years to come.
Still not sure what to buy ahead of the Christening? You can’t go far wrong with slipping some money into a well-chosen Christening card. Many new parents will have set up a bank account for their child, meaning they can transfer the funds or treat their baby or child to a gift they can treasure forever.
